Overview
The aerial part of Lysimachia christinae, a creeping plant of the damp zones of southern China.
Its name Jin Qian Cao means “herb of the gold coins”, in reference to the rounded leaves that call to mind small coins.
Harvested in summer when the plant is in flower, dried in the shade, it keeps its fine stems, its heart-shaped leaves and its small star-like yellow flowers.
Much used in the Chinese folk pharmacopoeia for constitutions of hard accumulations of the Water Phase (coupled).
Traditional uses
A herb specialised in clearing heat-Dampness and freeing the fluid passages of the Water Phase (coupled), particularly when these are clogged by dense accumulations.
Also traditionally used within the freeing register of Wood (coupled) and to neutralise toxic accumulations.
Preparation and traditional-use quantity
- Decoction: 15 to 60 g (high quantities for this herb), simmer for 25 to 30 minutes
- Extended use: a tradition of use over several weeks
- In a blend: frequently paired with Yin Chen Hao and Hai Jin Sha for constitutions with dense accumulations in the sphere of the Liquids
Precautions
To be avoided in cases of markedly deficient Yang. For constitutions with established accumulations, asking a practitioner for advice is essential.
